Something Scratching in the Attic? We Inspect, Remove, and Seal the Way Back In

Scratching over the ceiling. Thumps after midnight. A sharp urine smell that will not air out. Around Knoxville and nearby East Tennessee towns, that usually means squirrels, raccoons, bats, or rodents found a gap at the soffit, ridge, chimney, or gable vent.

Call (865) 486-8393. We inspect the roof line and attic, remove wildlife humanely, close the openings that started the problem, and talk through cleanup when droppings or torn insulation are part of the mess.

We'll follow up. If an animal is in living space, or a bat was in a room with people or pets, say that in the notes.

Short form. We follow up.

What homeowners usually notice first

Daytime racing and light thumps often point to Eastern gray squirrels working oak and maple limbs that touch the fascia. Night thumps and heavier walking lean raccoon, especially near river corridors and green belts. Soft fluttering at dusk, or a pile of crumbly dark droppings under a ridge or vent, can mean bats. Mice and rats leave finer trails, chewed corners, and small pellets along joists.

You do not need a perfect species guess before you call. Timing (day vs night), droppings size, and where the sound sits already narrow the list. A solid inspection maps every opening and confirms what is living upstairs.

What we do

Inspect. We walk the exterior for soft soffit corners, damaged fascia, open ridge and gable vents, chimney caps, and tree limbs that act like bridges. Inside, we check attic access and nesting sites when it is safe. You get a clear picture: which animal, how they got in, and what damage is already there.

Remove. Humane removal comes first. Live animals leave when the path is set up correctly. We do not leave a hole open and hope they stay gone.

Exclude. Trap-only work fails when the same gap stays open. Sealing entry points is what stops the next squirrel, raccoon, or bat from repeating the cycle. Materials stay practical for Tennessee roofs: metal, hardware cloth, and solid repairs animals cannot chew through again.

Cleanup talk. Droppings, urine soak, and shredded insulation are odor and health issues. We flag what needs attention so you can plan next steps without guessing. See the wildlife cleanup page when the attic still smells after animals are out.

Areas we serve

We work across greater Knoxville and nearby communities where ridges, rivers, and wooded lots meet roofs:

  • Knoxville: urban canopy, Fort Sanders and older in-town roofs, Holston and Tennessee river corridors, UT-area denser housing, Ijams and South Knox green edges.
  • Maryville: Blount County foothills pressure, downtown plus suburban streets, tree limbs to fascia on Chilhowee-edge lots.
  • Farragut: west Knox suburbs and wooded estates, newer builds with different gap patterns than in-town Knoxville.
  • Oak Ridge: mid-century ranch and ridge-valley housing stock with mature trees and worn vents over decades of use.
  • Powell: north Knox / I-75 corridor mix of suburban and rural lots, attic plus crawl space pressure.
  • Sevierville: Sevier County tourism edge, cabins and short-term rentals, attic squirrels / raccoons / bats as primary work, with careful black bear awareness as a yard and trash issue.

Each city page covers local habitat and housing. They are not the same paragraph with a different town name.

Why exclusion matters as much as removal

A raccoon that leaves tonight can return next week if the soffit gap is still there. Squirrels use limbs over Fort Sanders alleys and Farragut estates the same way: as bridges. Bats return to the same attic roost year after year when ridge and gable vents stay open. Closing those paths protects wiring, insulation, and your sleep.

We keep the framing honest: humane removal plus exclusion. No invented licenses, no fake street address, no review-count theater. You get a clear plan and a phone number that picks up when something is in the attic again.

Short FAQ

Do I need to know what animal it is before I call?+

No. Describe when you hear it and what you have seen. Day vs night timing already narrows the list.

Will you just set a trap and leave?+

Trapping without sealing is a revolving door. We aim for remove and exclude so the same gap does not invite the next animal.

What about bats in summer?+

Tennessee maternity-colony exclusion is generally restricted about May 1 through August 1. We can still inspect and plan anytime. Confirm timing with a TWRA-aware operator before any bat exclusion work.

Do you only work on attics?+

Attics are common, but crawl spaces, under decks, chimneys, and roofline gaps show up often depending on the neighborhood.

How fast should I call?+

As soon as noise, smell, or droppings show up. Waiting usually means more insulation damage and more chewed wire.
